CBD Dosing Guide for Pets
Cannabidiol (CBD) has become a popular supplement for pets dealing with anxiety, arthritis, seizures, and pain. Unlike THC, CBD is non-psychoactive, meaning it won't get your pet "high." However, finding the right dose can be tricky because product concentrations vary wildly.
How much CBD should I give my dog?
The general rule of thumb for starting CBD is 0.1 mg to 0.2 mg per kg of body weight. For more severe conditions like seizures or intense pain, veterinarians may recommend up to 2.0 mg/kg, but this should always be built up to gradually.
- Low Dose (0.1 mg/kg): General wellness, mild anxiety.
- Standard Dose (0.5 mg/kg): Arthritis, moderate pain, storm anxiety.
- High Dose (2.0 mg/kg): Severe chronic pain, seizures (under vet supervision).
Frequently Asked Questions
Can my dog overdose on CBD?
While CBD itself is generally considered safe, extremely high doses can cause lethargy, diarrhea, and temporary loss of coordination. The biggest risk comes from products containing THC, which is toxic to dogs.
How to read the label?
Always look for "Total mg" in the bottle and the "Bottle Size" in mL. Divide Total Mg by Total mL to get the concentration (mg/mL). Our calculator does this for you automatically.
Toxic Warning
Ensure your product contains less than 0.3% THC. THC can be toxic to dogs and cats.
Never use "human" edibles or gummies that might contain Xylitol (Birch Sugar), which is fatal to dogs.
